what would you do if you left your husband behind for another man and for the sake of your families honor was hunted down and almost killed by your brother? Well thats what happened to 17 year old Gul meena, she was married of to a 60 year old man at the age of 12 and being a victim of phsyical abuse every day that she lived with her husband. Her family as well beat her when she complained about this to her parents until one day met a young man from afghanistan and ran away with him across the border. Some women who have been through the same would have done something similar if they had a family like gul's. Most victims of abuse are emotionaly scared because of what they have gone through they have no self confidence in themselves. After a few crossing the border gul's brother tracks her down and kills gul's friend and leaving gul to die having hacked her aswell then crosses back over to pakistan. Her brother did this to his own sister in the name of his family honor because since they were raised as islamic people it is a serious crime to run off with another man when a woman is already married. A bypasser heard the commotion and went her dirrection and found her in a bloody pool around her and rushes her to the emergency department of nangarhar regional medical centre where they operated on her.
The doctors explained to reporters that gul meena had several gashes on her face and in her skull was broken spilling out some of her brain out of her head and they thought she would probably die. But she didn't die she survived whitch is actually remarkable that she survived even with those very serious injuries since her brother hacked her and her friend 15 times. When authorities told her family that she was alive they told them they don't want anything to do with her. This was very heart breaking to her because now she has no one to turn to for help but thank to the doctors there,they paid so she could stay another two months at the hospital.Then the woman from American-Afghan organization Women for Afghan Women took her in to give her gul the love she so truly deserves.Since hse was abandoned by her own family she didnt trust the organization until she saw that they truly cared for her, helping her when she needed it the most. Since that fatal day gul meena has been very depressed that the same day she was almost killed she wished she had died. Its very sad that she would say that and also at the shelter she has tried numerous times to kill herself and says that she wants to just die.
